Giving Back to Veterans

Here at Westlake Development Group, we’re proud to support our American Veterans. We want to show our true appreciation to those who sacrifice everything to protect our country. We’re honored to be able to give back to veterans. Keep reading to learn more about a few of the veteran’s event we’ve held and how you can get involved.

Our First Street of Dreams Veterans Event

During the 2014 Street of Dreams, Gerald Rowlett of Westlake Development Group had developed an idea for an event created specifically to bring recognition to both active and retired military members and their immediate family. We created our first ever Veteran’s Day Event as a way to thank those who have served our country and raise awareness to the needs of our veterans on several different levels.

The result was a huge success and the very first of its kind at the Street of Dreams. It was an all-day free admission ceremony, which included the National Anthem during the flag raise and a free catered lunch. In attendance were over 450 veterans and their family members.

Veteran’s Steering Committee

In 2015, Westlake Development Group was able to merge with representatives to create the Veteran’s Steering Committee after gaining more attention from companies and event sponsors. The Veteran’s Steering Committee consists of passionate people willing to spend their time and efforts giving back to our veteran community. During our 2015 Street of Dreams veteran’s event, Westlake Development Group and the Veteran’s Steering Committee gained more media attention to bring in multiple sponsors to host an event that included:

• A catered lunch from Costco
• Stories and scenes from the Historical Outreach Society
• A WWII tank to fire off blanks.

With our National Anthem and flyover during the flag raise, we had a moment of silence to commemorate those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Attendees were then invited to stay for an evening show put on by local country artist, Kurt Van Meter and his band. The 2015 all-day ceremony brought in over 1,850 people.

The Birth of a Tradition

🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸

Our veteran’s events at Street of Dreams have become an annual tradition that we look forward to every year. We have enjoyed working with incredible organizations like the Veterans Sportsman Alliance, which gets injured and disabled Veterans out of the house and hospital, and into the therapeutic surrounding of nature and outdoor adventure.
